Garena VN

This is the first job in game industry that I took while I was still in my highschool days. It didn't relate to the game design aspects much, but it still gave me a dip to experience new things.

  • Duration: 2010 - 2011

  • Roles: Event Planner / Collaborator

DotA

It was a totally normal and random day when my best friends came to me and ask, "Hey, Garena is looking for collaborators. Wanna come?"

The job was all about looking for small & local DotA groups in HoChiMinh, introducing about Garena Plus (the premium version of Garena software), and trying to have them organizing the local tournaments with supports from Garena. I started as an collaborator but quickly became a full-fledged event planner. Introducing people, looking for teams, advertising, planning for brackets, event time and prizes, everything became precious experiences.

Heroes of Newerth

Quickly after the rise of Heroes of Newerth (HoN) and League of Legends (LoL), I was moved to the community team of these products. As the games are still new to customers, we held multiple events with both games, in order to introduce users how to play and spread the awareness about the products.

League of Legends

When LoL was firstly introduced in Vietnam by Garena, the game was named "Chiến Thần" (God of War). The localization and awareness of product are still very lacking, so I did joined the team with the responsibilities of introduce the game to the Cyber Cafes and their users. Funny enough, at that time due to being a highschool boy, it surely made it easier to befriend Cyber Cafe owners and the teenagers. In short span of time (about 2 months), I was able to build up few strongholds of "LoL playing Cybers" near my school and residence.
